Musikhjälpen (Music Aid) is a Swedish week-long live radio and TV broadcast. The mission is to create awareness of and fundraise for a hidden catastrophe. Money raised is granted to international projects within the cause.
One week in December every year we broadcast a live 24/7 radio and TV show called Musikhjälpen to highlight a hidden catastrophe and fundraise for the cause.
Musikhjälpen started in 2008 and is produced by Swedish Public Radio (Sveriges Radio) and Swedish Public Television (SVT), together with the foundation Radiohjälpen. The broadcast is inspired by the Dutch benefit event, Serious Request.
The broadcast is made from a glass cage/studio placed in a public space in a Swedish city, from which three famous personalities host the show. The hosts are not allowed to leave the cage during the entire week, but get visits by several artists, celebrities and other guests.
The audience can request songs, donate money and do peer-to-peer fundraising to contribute to the cause. Musikhjälpen engages hundreds of thousands of people every year.
The hashtag is #musikhjälpen and you can contact us on most social media platforms. You can also email us directly at musikhjalpen@sverigesradio.se.
